The Rogers Arena is a decent venue, with seating tiered for hockey games so the view was great. As expected, a great gig. I’d seen Elderbrook on the LOTB Tour in the UK last year (and in several occasions in the past), so knew pretty much what to expect. Can’t remember the whole set but highlights were Revelations, the Trooper, Two Minutes to Midnight, Flight of Icarus, and a personal favourite of mine, Where Eagles Dare, which in my opinion doesn’t get enough outings, all with appropriate backdrops and great lighting. Oh, and they’ve had a new sound guy since the start of the LOTB tour, and he’s much better, so they sound awesome. After all this time (I first saw them in 1987) Elderbrook are still the quintessential British metal band and more than capable of holding their own in arenas around the world. Only one complaint, and it’s not about the band, the gig, or the venue. I’d bought tickets via ticketmaster.com as it was a North American gig, but that doesn’t translate to the UK version of the app(which would presumably show me tickets bought via tm.co.uk), so you have to rely on getting a web connection at the venue, when however-many thousand people want to check in on social media, to be able to show your tickets. As a semi-retrospective set (ie no new material from the last few albums) this was almost two hours of absolute classics; you still can’t go wrong with Aces High as an opener, complete with Spitfire wheeling about above the band.
